This is actually a new character that I am playing in
Kwiksylver's online game on Wednesday nights. I believe he is a rather
unique and interesting character that will definitely be challenging to
play. I think it will be a lot of fun watching him grow up....if he
survives long enough!
Background
A true child of the city, Daniel was born in the Shadow Run district of
Melkalund. His father was a mariner who was lost at sea when he was 10.
His mother is struggling to support his four younger siblings as a
chamber maid/serving wench at the SILVER SEAL INN on Old Wharf street.
Shortly after his father’s death, Daniel was accepted into the ZIG ZAG
gang of street urchins. His extraordinary speed and ability to evade
capture earned him the nickname of “Fleet” and enabled him to rise to
the position of “Right Hand”. He retired from the gang at the ripe old
age of 13.
Since leaving the gang, Fleet has tried to help support the family by
taking on jobs such as dishwasher, waiter and dock hand. Unfortunately
none worked out for very long due to his “restless spirit” and constant
day dreaming about a life of adventure.
About a year ago, he was tested and accepted into a secret organization
called the “Adventurer’s Guild” where he spends the early part of the
day in training. He also holds a part-time job as a messenger/courier
for a local delivery service with strong ties to both the thieves and
assassins guilds. With the money he earns, he pays his guild fees and
the rest he gives to his mother to help support his younger brothers and
sisters.
In the evenings, Fleet is most often found hanging around the kitchen of
the “Rainbow Rose”. He has a crush on one of the courtesans there by the
name of Cheska….who is ten years his senior. Fleet goes to great lengths
to impress Cheska with gifts of flowers, sweets and costume jewelry that
he just “happens to find”, as well as entertaining her with his sleight
of hand skills. She thinks of Daniel as a sweet young boy and is very
fond of him. Although there has never been a physical relationship
between the two, he considers her his most trusted friend and confidant.
There is nothing he won’t tell her (except for the fact that he secretly
wants to marry her), nor anything he wouldn’t do for her or in her
defense.
When not training, working or visiting with Cheska, he spends his time
in the back street taverns, most notably the "Blue Barbarian", listening
to the bard’s tales of mystery and high adventure.
Fleet avoids direct confrontations whenever possible, preferring to use
his speed and quick thinking ability to keep him out of trouble.
However, when combat is unavoidable, his favorite weapon is a thick, 2
foot long heavy piece of rope with a large tight knot (about the size of
a large man’s fist) tied at the end. He wields this unusual weapon with
+3 efficiency. He is also very adept with throwing knives.
Finally, Fleet is a secret PSI-Rogue with Scoot, Ground Glue, Mask and
Ghostling abilities. No one (not even his mother) knows of his
abilities.
