The Scorpion Mage

Ellah is now about 200 years old. About 150 years ago,
he got separated from the rest of a party in the process of looting a
subterranean tomb. Stumbling into a fight in a large room between a
giant golden scorpion and a half dozen demon locusts, he tripped over
his own feet and sprawled head-first. The sky pearl (a pearl with
ever-changing colors, reflecting the state of the sky at that moment
from wherever it was formed) rolled out of his purse and into the midst
of the demon locusts. They all were turned by the pearl, and vanished.
The scorpion then revealed herself to be the high priestess of the
religion known as Kireth
Kardalla (Circle of the Scorpion's Truth), and stung Elllah at the base
of his spine, as a reward for saving the temple from being profaned,
thus morphing him to his present condition.
Regrettably, one of the tenets of Kireth Kardalla is that the blessed
(as Ellah now was) will ever after preserve their essential character
against all agency of change. That's great for a real hero, but less so
for an inadvertent one. Ellah has thus sauntered through a century and a
half of often-bumbling mediocrity, without ever realizing it. He has
gone through life joining one expedition after another, his signature
introductory phrase being, "Hi, I'm Ellah, I'm a scorpion mage!" Most
adventurers who've never heard of him are most impressed, but that wears
off after about two days on the road. Almost nobody can stand to run
with him more than once, between his geek-like banter and his complete
inability to understand combat tactics.
Just a few years ago, he capped off all these years of lost
opportunities by killing a brownie that was pestering him, and is now
hounded unmercifully by all brownies.

Special Ability: True sight as to all things magikal.
Class Abilities: His cold magic deals double damage. His fire magic does
half damage.
Racial Abilities: If (and only if) he fails a fear roll, he morphs into
a 120HP black scorpion (AC 4) and is thereafter immune to fear for 13
minutes. After said 13 minutes, he reverts to his original form.
As a scorpion, he can attack with pincers for 1D6 each, and with his
sting for 1D3 plus a backgammon doubling cube's worth of venom. The
sting also works when he is in human form, up to three times daily,
after which the venom is depleted.
He also always has the same sense of smell as a scorpion (base 50%).
Regenerates like a troll.
Description: A wizened little man (5'5", 102 lb) with a full head of
silver hair and yellow-brown complexion. His body is actually protected
by subcutaneous scorpion chitin (AC 7 equiv), but most noticeable is the
5-foot-long scorpion tail, bright red in color, sticking out from behind
his robes! He also has a blue-black puncture scar at the base of his
spine.
Equipment: A sky pearl (gives turn-away powers equivalent to a
20th-level priest.)
Nothing else but cash! Not even a wand!
