Demon Death
by John Pottle a.k.a. Deodanth
Value: Never bought or sold, but estimated at
125,000 G.S.
Composition: Black steel (Yadrann), Silveel, hematite,
bloodstone, Silbony, and fine silver wire.
Age: 7700 years.
Origin: This blade was forged in ancient Dravidia, homeland of
the Vedic Mysteries, for the express purpose of slaying demons. It is
said that the great god Shiva the Destroyer, enemy of all demonkind,
himself blessed the creation of the sword. It has been passed down
through the dimensions from one wielder to another, but is almost always
in the hands of someone who gained a reputation as a great and fell
Demonslayer to the exclusion of any other good or noble purpose.
Looks: The blade is inlaid with runes and Hindu carvings, and has
razor-sharp flanges resembling tongues of black fire. The base of the
blade looks like a large, carved dragon’s head whose “breath” is the
blade itself. Its large, silbony-veined and stone-encrusted batlike
“ears” form the cross hilts. The pommel contains a single, round gem of
unknown nature, rumored to be an augmented Nanorion stone.
Size: Hand-and-a-half type, blade 44”, overall length 63”.
Magik Powers: (NOTE – For BF bonuses simply multiply all AF
bonuses by x3).
1. Against normal opponents it is a +2 bastard sword (WV 5, RCH +7%)
doing 1d8+8 damage per hit.
2. Against demons, devils, djinn, efreet, elementals, slaadi, vampires*,
and extraplanar beings, it is +4 AF, +10% RCH, and does double damage.
3. Against chaotic evil, “True Demons” the sword does the following
whenever it hits: automatic crit on Lesser Demons, and +25% to RCH on
Greater Demons. In addition, the Demon must make an MRS save (or “save
vs. death”, GM option) or be discorporated/ dispelled/ banished to its
home dimension, regardless of type!
4. In the hands of a Paladin, worshipper of Shiva, or avowed demon
slayer, it functions as a “Holy Sword” and does triple damage.
5. The sword grants its user the ability to detect all demonkind within
150’ automatically, and detect all other Evil within 60’ at a base 50%
plus 3% per EL of the wielder.
6. The sword is a sentient and strongly purposeful being with
Intelligence=10, Ego=14, and psychic strength equivalent to an EL 8
Warrior. The GM may use any rules or dice roll desired for the “ego
contest” between sword and wielder, but within one week (150 hours) of
picking it up, one or the other must be the victor. If the sword wins
the contest, it will compel its user to seek out, challenge and destroy
Demons of all types – stopping only for food, rest, and to cultivate
wealth and relationships which would also further the sword’s goals. If
the wielder is below EL 4 or otherwise deemed to be “too weak,” the
sword will compel him to seek out and challenge a more powerful demon
slayer to a duel. This is Demondeath’s way of insuring that it is in the
best hands to further its singular purpose.
And those are just the basic powers (!) available to anyone who picks up
Demondeath. Once the sword comes to “respect” its wielder and a bond
forms, it MAY grant additional powers to him. This is completely the
GM’s option and normally does not happen until after at least 3 months
or after the sword has slain at least 7 demons by the wielder’s hand.
Additional powers may include the following:
7. Heal (total including critical wounds), once per week.
8. Protection from either Fire or Cold, up to 80 HP in defensive
strength, once per day.
9. Stoneskin, once per Silver Moon phase (13 days).
10. Also, whenever fighting chaotic evil Demons, the user is equal to a
Warrior of equal EL with expertise in the sword (+2 to hit and damage,
and +1 attack per round). The wielder also can gain the Warrior’s
ability to sense ambush (100% success with regard to Demons only).
11. Final Strike: This is GM-adjudicated and can be anything the sword
might “do” to protect itself and its purpose! It will NEVER occur unless
all potential wielders of the sword are incapacitated or slain!
