Never played Arduin before but will be in the near future. While walking through several character creations on my own, I came across the following questions. Many of these may simply be DM-fiat territory, but thought I would ask in case I'm missing obvious things somewhere...

Where can I find information on the Great Grey Cave Spiders mentioned in the Knoblin race section?

A forester is competent (+10%) with bows. They are +20% with their primary weapon if it is a bow. Do those two bonuses stack, resulting in a total +30% or is +20% total for the primary weapon?

If a non-Thief character obtains a Thief skill (such as a Courtesan or gaining Hide from a special ability roll), do they gain the racial bonuses for their race on that skill (if any) that are listed in the Thief section?

The section on Experience Levels does not seem to address split class characters.

Weapons Training: In general, how does one become familiar with a weapon? Is he familiar if the weapon is listed in the race details (such as rapiers, poniards/daggers and chupa for Khai-Zirin)? Is he familiar if it is listed in the class details (such as crossbows and daggers listed for the Techno)? This seems most important to the third class of Weapons Training detailed, as they are WC -15 with every weapon unless they are familiar with it... unless I'm reading that wrong. This makes it kind of hard for a non-martial character that might see combat often (thieves and witch hunters for example) to start out with any appreciable melee and ranged weapon skill.

Does the Armor Training half EV bonus apply to individual pieces like helms and greaves, and if so, which types of individual pieces belong in which armor category. For example, there are helms and bracers of "metal reinforced hard leather", but nothing with soft leather (except gloves).

Lastly, random subsidiary skill selection makes me sad. Sad

They are in the bestiary portion of the CA II book. Its a pretty sparse entry. However, I treat them as the following:

They look like Tartarus Spiders image here and I treat them as such except make them much larger than the normal Tartarus spider. You can read some more on them here as well

A foresters bonuses do indeed stack together if chosen as you did.

Yes.

The CA does not implement this well. If you allow split class, my best suggestion is to average the requirements of the class to advance.

So if one advances every 4 expeditions and the other ever 3 expeditions, they would advance in both every 3 or 4 expeditions depending on how you want to average.

Let's see if I can unsnarl this some. If listed in race or class details, then you are familiar with the weapons. Otherwise, no familiarity is implied. This does indeed place a strong bias against non-martial characters.

I ruled that it does in my personal games. somewhere I have posted a chart of how I viewed armor as well. I'll find the link and post later.

Hmmm, can't seem to locate it there either... I see Black Fisherman, Grey Horror, Krag Spider, Lightning Spider, Red Fangs, Snow Spider, Spiga, Star Spider, Giant Tarantula, and Web Widows. Is it represented by one of those, or am I missing an entry in my skimming? Trying not to read the actual entries, since I'm not running the game. Confused

Then its probably not there. I too no longer play CA since I've converted to AE so I'm quit paying attention to some info.

Given the data I provided you on Tartarus Spiders, I'd use the Web Widow as a base and make a few modifications to make it fit your game.

Out of curiosity, if you don't intend on playing CA, why the concern about CA stats for this critter? Almost all the CA entries on creatures were bare bones at best.

No, we are playing the CA version. The person running the game picked up AE, but since the older Arduin Grimoire is where his experience lies, he opted to run CA once we found those books.

I'll see if I can dig out my CA stuff this weekend.

Ok, another question. The list of Armors has half suits, full suits and individual pieces. If a character buys a half suit with an AV of 2, a helmet with an AV of 2 and Greaves, Bracers, Gauntlets and Boots with an AV of 1... is his total AV 8? Or does he essentially have an AV of 2 everywhere except, feet, hands, lower arms and lower legs? Of course, by the figures on the armor table, that adds up to an EV of 17, which is the same as samauri/legionary armor, unless I'm not understanding EV. Kind of like 5 throwing axes vs 1 francisca.

Its up the GM on this one but CA seems to support the two approaches well enough.

Personally I played that you could combine the items up to a complete AV of 8 using your example.
